My Work

Eagle and Snake.  $1,500.00

This was one of the most difficult pieces for me to design and create.  Beadwork, for me, is all about structure and order.  This piece relies upon a certain amount of chaos.  If you were to look closely, you would find that some patterns begin to emerge.

The eagle, while not marked, has been tested and is sterling silver.  The wings are articulated, so the whole piece is very dramatic when worn.  This piece is 30 inches long, and no ... it's not all that heavy.

Whirlwind Earrings.  $45.00
My own design, and a technique that is unique.  It baffles a lot of people to see these, whether individual pieces, or composites like this.  The "African Creation" was made from the same technique.

          Florette Bracelet, $250.00

This piece is one of the easiest techniques that I've developed, so that even the novice beadworker can master it within a few hours.

Turquoise, coral, created opal and silver makes this piece one of the most precious material heavy in my collection that I'm offering on the site.  It is 7.5 inches long.

                    Asian Dragon Scale $75.00

I'm not certain what makes this bag any more "Asian" than any other bag, except that all I could think of when I made this was the red dragon with gold tips.  Like in nature, the part of the scale, feathers, petal or whatever doesn't always hold the same color throughout the entire piece.  I think it has some sort of biological conservation at work.

The small stone bead between the bag and the fringe is a "mystery bead," as it came with a purchase of a blind lot of beads and pearls.  I didn't have the jade I wanted, so I still used green, which attracts money and harmony!  The fringe is done in micro-beads, and is scattered with size 15 beads throughout to give a more realistic image of what one may find on a plant.  Lastly, there are a few beads from Ghana, the yellow and red beads.  They are crushed and powdered glass, laid down in layers in a wooden mould, then fired.

Morganite Whimsey, $125

Again, this is a design of my own, and is a delicate, small piece of contrasting colors; gold and black with aurora finished tear drop beads, and a trillion-cut Morganite (a slight peach/pink color stone from the emerald family of beryls).

Garnet and Amber Dragon Scale Bag, $325.00

Well, this one is fairly self-explanitory ... gold, garnets, amber, some copper beads.  Fairly straightforward.

Hair Pin $45.00
This is a great piece coming from a bald man!  But I have to admit, I enjoy these little projects, as I can put together ideas and test them out.  Most time, they work, other times, they don't.  This stick in particular, has an African coin (I thought that using a Chinese coin for luck has been done to death, and this type of coin was heavily used in Eastern Africa for many years, as a clasp for necklaces.  So I completely removed the coin from any social or cultural context.).  There is also citrine and amethyst beads, with small stars to make an interesting, Asian type of arrangement (Ikebana).

Russian Netting, $750.00
This is an interesting and laborious design that requires a lot of patience, and a lot of  perseverence.  Each bead is added either one, three, five, eight or ten at a time, and knowing when to use what combination is a real talent.  I'm not rooty toot-tooting my own horn, but I have met only a handful of bead work artists who even attempt this type of work.
This is a detail of the
above piece, along with its antique crystal button closure (or centerpiece).  There are two colors of tear-drop beads, a dyed "strawberry" quartz bead, and three small, seed pearls at the end of each mauve-colored drop.  This piece is nearly 20 inches long, and at only a couple of inches a day, one can see the depth of technique that is required for such a piece.

By the way, this piece won First Place at the Navajo County Fair in August 2009, and First Place at the Arizona State Fair in October 2009.
   Eye Ring, $50.00

This delightful piece harkens back to a more ancient time, when "eyes" were made on beads.  I have natural agate eyes, but some of the oldest "eye beads" are nearly 4,000 years ... I think they are older.  The whole point is to keep as many different eyes out to watch over for you as possible.

The ring is size 8 sterling silver, with five eye beads, each multiple eyes.  They are buffered by sterling silver beads, and a small Swarovski (tm) flower on top.

Beaded Miniature Pot, not for sale

This is just a small pot given to me by my good friend, Theresa Geary -- author, designer, bead diva and all around great person!  She gave it to me several years ago, and I put off the beading of it, because I wasn't very familiar with beading around forms.  Well, in the next few pics, you'll see that, along with the hair sticks, isn't much of a problem anymore!  This is here just to brag!  This pot, by the way, won First Place at the 2009 Navajo County Fair!

Beachcombing at Hona-Lee, $575.00
There is a delicate design to this piece that, unfortunately, does not make it to the final pic.  This is an oddly named piece, but when I was done, I couldn't help think that it looked like "green scales fell like rain" from the magical song "Puff, the Magic Dragon."  So I kept working with a sea shore theme, and came up with this title.  I have a bit of a latent hostility towards Jackie Paper, because he at least had his dragon!  Then he had the temerity to grow up!  He abandoned his childhood innocence that good always won, and bad was always punished.  It's that simple belief that could keep us from so many different problems we face today.  Instead of all the constituents on the field of the Noble Dead, it could be our elected officials.  If their heart is pure, then they win, if they are bad, well, we have FOX, msnbc, NBC, and all the others to take care of them!

A little macabre, sorry for that!  Anyway, the piece has pearls, two types of coral, and many other beads of great value.  One piece that is NOT a bead, but a valuable Mexican Opal.  Please enjoy!
                                        My Arizona, $275.00

In 2002, there was a terrible fire named the Rodeo-Chediski that burned an area roughly the size of London.  Our community was right in the path of this terrible monster, and we had to evacuate.  As time turned, the fire was controlled, and while many communities suffered great losses, we were blessedly spared.

To deal with the various emotions felt by many, the artist community in this area came together to deal with the trauma.  I submitted this piece, and it is full of symbolism.  The mountains on fire, the rivers and waters around us are affected, and then, trying to take all those horrible, burned trees and turn them into something that may be useful or beautiful was quite difficult.

I hope you enjoy the piece as a symbol neither good, nor evil, but simply of what people can do when they are despirate.
